Retail Division Manager
Reports to: President
Location: Central California, covering all Big Creek retail locations
 
Overview of Operation:
Big Creek Lumber Company is a family-owned business that has been serving central California since 1946. Big Creek is vertically integrated – owning and managing forestlands, manufacturing lumber, selling through wholesale distribution channels, and selling directly to contractors and homeowners through our retail lumber yards.

Big Creek operates five retail lumber yards with locations in Atwater, Half Moon Bay, Paso Robles, Santa Cruz and Watsonville. Combined retail gross sales are in the range of $30-50 million annually.
 
General Description:
Responsible for all aspects of retail division performance. Work with owners, senior managers and retail branch managers to develop short and long range plans for retail division. Develop leadership to meet retail division needs.
 
Major Responsibilities:

  • Maintain retail division financial performance that ensures the long term financial health of the company
  • Work in collaboration with owners and senior management to develop, analyze and implement plans to improve retail division and company performance
  • Provide information, analysis and recommendations to the Board of Directors
  • Oversee performance of retail branch managers and assist them in achieving their goals
  • Ensure high quality, accurate, timely, cost effective services from all retail operations
  • Ensure effective training in all areas of retail operations including customer service, sales, production, product knowledge and safety
  • Develop business, management and leadership skills in managers and supervisors
  • Ensure cooperative relationships and effective coordination of activities among retail branches
  • Work effectively with administrative and support staff to achieve company goals and promote a culture of company-wide cooperation
  • Work cooperative with wholesale division to effectively market the products Big Creek manufactures
  • Facilitate resolution of difficult situations involving personnel or customer.
  • Develop career paths for key personnel
  • Develop future managers and supervisors to meet retail division needs
  • Develop an in-depth understanding of Big Creek’s market areas
  • Develop strategies and implement plans to maximize profitable sales and increase market share
  • Direct Big Creek’s retail marketing effort
  • Present a positive image of safety, cleanliness, professionalism and promptness to our customers
  • Promote the retail branches consistent with Big Creek’s values
  • Monitor industry trends
  • Seek innovative approaches and viable opportunities for business growth
