Big Creek Lumber strives to be a good business citizen and contributor in the communities in which we do business. Over the last several decades, we have been fortunate enough to enjoy a level of business prosperity that allows us to give back to the communities in which we do business. Our contributions are wide and varied in type and scope, and we tend to focus our contribution efforts on areas where we can make a unique contribution, be it redwood materials for special projects, the expertise and equipment of our logging crew in natural disasters, or use of our land for educational and scientific purposes.
Some of the continuing community projects we support include:
Big Creek Lumber’s annual booth at the Santa Cruz County Fair.
Big Creek Lumber is a business sponsor of numerous community organizations, including:
Big Creek Lumber often offers sawmill tours for educational groups and participates in educational programs in conjunction with the California Forestry Challenge, Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, Leadership Santa Cruz County and multiple forestry and agricultural programs. Big Creek Lumber provides consistent support for scientific research by allowing access to its property to such agencies as the California Department of Fish and Game, the National Marine Fisheries Service and the Regional Water Quality Control Board as well as a wide range of educational institutions. For over 30 years, Big Creek Lumber has donated the hatchery site for the Monterey Bay Salmon and Trout Project, a non-profit group specializing in raising and releasing native brood stock into local Central Coast streams.
On a limited basis, when insurance is available, Big Creek Lumber extends access to groups for use of our land for recreational purposes. Recent activities on Big Creek Lumber property include:
Access to Big Creek Lumber property is by written permission only. If you are interested in obtaining a permit, you may contact our Davenport administration office during regular business hours.
Each year Big Creek Lumber receives hundreds of donation requests.
