BIG CREEK LUMBER

Tools, Tips and Information from our business to yours - Building better business together!

January Lumber Market Report

Western sheathing mills have had steady sales pushing their order files out untill mid January. We can expect prices to hold or move higher in the New Year.

OSB sales in the western region have been sluggish. Mill order files are out into mid January causing prices to firm up.

The green douglas fir market continues to move sideways.  Saw mills are leaning on their curtailments as hard as they can to hold prices firm.

Community Support

Big Creek is proud to have partnered with our customers to support Teddy Bears with Heart as one of the county fair charities. They provide teddy bears for children, the terminally ill and lonely seniors who have been abused, traumatized or hurt, by gifting a teddy bear. The fundraiser was able to buy hundreds of bears to be given back to the community.

They are a locally grown charity that was founded six years ago. In the first five years as an organization, they gave out a little over 20,000 bears and stuffed animals. This year the organization has grown and gave out over 10,000.  And the demand keeps growing for bears.

From Teddy Bears with Heart founder, Susie Hansen, "Teddy Bears with Heart is honored and excited to have partnered with Big Creek. Their willingness to help bring comfort to children in crisis, the terminally ill and the forgotten elderly has been much appreciated by all who benefit from their generosity and that of the community.  We've been able to do give out an amazing number so far thanks to the caring community we live in." TBWH collects and distributes bears and stuffed animals year round.  They need to be new or gently used.  For More information, visit http://www.teddybearswithheart.org/

Ron Felton - Half Moon Bay Yard Lead

How long have you worked at Big Creek Lumber?

I've been working at Big Creek for approximately five months including through the temp agency.

What brought you to Big Creek?

I believe there are strong values here at Big Creek and my faith in GOD would lead me to believe that this is where He wanted me to be and to stay.

What makes our Half Moon Bay yard unique?

Without a doubt our yard here in HMB is unique because of size and layout.  The high volume of traffic also presents some beautiful challenges that change every day and are exciting.

What do you like to do for fun?

I like to learn and tinker so I spend a lot of time at the Redwood City Library and I'm a member of The TECHSHOP.  The TECHSHOP is where DIYers can go to create things and learn new skills such as welding (mig/tig), auto repair, auto body, machine shop, woodshop, computer software - auto desk inventor, CAD design and print screen.

What's your favorite product?

My favorite product happens to be....PLYWOOD..., and that is because of its versatility and the wide range of uses. You can build floors, walls and add a roof all just by using plywood.  Fancy home, yeah!
