BIG CREEK LUMBER
Tools, Tips and Information from our business to yours - Building better business together!
March Lumber Market Report
All 3 markets (Green Framing, OSB & Western Sheathing) for the month of February have vacillated at some of the lowest numbers in awhile.
The bad weather in the mid west and the east have kept jobs from getting started, leaving material available on the west coast. That being said all 3 markets are set to run up when the weather breaks or if the mills slow or cut production.

Building Trends - Houzz Barometer: Business Abuzz at the Roots
By Sandra Malm
The Q1 2015 Houzz Barometer revealed consistent revenue growth across the residential construction industry, which was fueled by improvements in both the number and scale of new projects or orders.
The Houzz Barometer polls 5,000 of the firms that host professional pages on the site, including builders, remodelers, interior designers, architects, and landscapers.
Small firms (with fewer than 5 employees) have recovered from the recession, according to the report. In fact, many are now facing capacity limitations. Approximately a third of these firms reported hiring in 2014, with larger proportion of firms in all sectors (and of all sizes) bullish on hiring in 2015.
Community Support - Watsonville High School Shop
Big Creek is excited to help support the Watsonville High School Shop program.
While on winter break, teacher Evan Clark drove his trailer up to Big Creek to pick up a pallet of 2' shorts, which ended up requiring two trips up to Davenport. He was going to use that as well as other wood that he purchased at the Santa Cruz yard for future projects.
We're excited to see what the students can create with this wood. To the right you will see a garden box that the students created to help beautify the campus.
Way to go students!

How long have you worked at Big Creek Lumber?
I will have been at Big Creek for 30 years in November, Wow!
What has keep you here so long?
I like that it is a family business. They trust their employees to do their jobs and leave us alone and let us get quality work done.
What do you like to do for fun?
I am really into bike riding, I am into both mountain and road biking. Some of my favorite areas to ride is in Nisene Marks State Park, UCSC and on the Emma McCrary trail.
Occasionally I go on big trips up to Sonora and ride over the big passes into Nevada and enjoy riding near Yosemite. This weekend I will do lots of mountain biking with friends visiting from out of town. Other than that you will find me with my family.
