Redwood Decking
Contrary to information in the marketplace, redwood is plentiful, affordable, and renewable.
Quality work requires a product that is beautiful and long-lasting. Materials need to withstand environmental elements yet retain both stability and appearance. Redwoodi has a well-known reputation for meeting these requirements. Equally important, there are cost-effective redwood grades to specify for every project. Redwood has qualities not found in other woods – even woods treated with chemicals. Redwood performance characteristics include resistance to shrinking, warping and checking in addition to durability. This means redwood projects age beautifully. Decks made with redwood really do look better for years after construction.
Our primary decking products are 2x6 Construction Heart (Con Heart) and Construction Common (Con Com). Both have similar knot structures and are available in 8 – 20’ lengths. The Construction heart is all red in color while the Construction Common has a combination of both red and blonde wood.
The heartwood contains tannin, which is more resistive to decay and damage caused by insects. It works well in damp environments where you need a product that is both beautiful and durable.
Redwood Construction Common does well in dry, arid climates. It is affordable and will add value to any home.
Big Creek can provide higher grades of redwood decking:
Heartwood Sapi Wood
Rwd Heart B/Selecti Heart Rwd B/Select
Higher grades are only available in random lengths. Please account for this when planning your project because you will receive a mixture of lengths from 6 through 20’.
